Aluminum cans, .05 deposit or sell as scrap?

Gentlemen; I see alot of aluminum cans are sold as scrap. Since we have a .05 cent deposit for the returnables,soda, beer cans etc. Wouldn't we be better to get the .05 cents per can versus selling as scrap. I have never weighed an empty 12oz. beer can. But I suspect it would take quite a few for a pound.

The deposit is higher than the scrap price.

sell them for .05 it take about 28 cans to make a pound
28 X.05 =$1.40 or 60 cents per pound
