Went out with Kimsdad to the river today. . . hoping Joe & Kermit
might have left a few Barbers. . . NOT!

Instead, I settled for an 1899 Indian at the base of a tree only about
2-inches deep. If I would have taken one step closer to the river
I would have been down the 10' bank and in it :stop:

Later on, we moved to more swampy areas where I found three
totally-encrusted pieces of gold jewelry. After a 20-minute scrub with
Naval Jelly after I got home, I was able to clean about 90% of the crud off.

Thanks for looking,

Mark,

That IH is choice! Plus, you sure do know how to make them look great. Awesome AU too! Great day!

Great finds, Mark - and nice job cleaning up the gold!   :icon_king:

That Indian must have been dropped just about 110 years ago! :o

It's in amazing shape!!!

That IH is incredible. Whats your secret on how you get them to look brand new?

Thanks for the comments everyone!

For the old Wheats & IH's I find, I heat up about 2-ounces Hydrogen Peroxide
in a small pyrex dish. . . using the microwave. . . until it just starts to bubble.
I then put the pennies in (date-side up). After it cools down (about 10-minutes)
I take a soft toothbrush and GENTLY brush them under running water.

If they're not as clean as I want, I repeat the above process. As a final step,
I'll warm up each coin over a gas flame. . . using pliers. . . for a few seconds
and then drop it onto a cake of Bees Wax which will coat the coin. After that,
I'll use a soft cotton cloth and rub off any excess wax. And that's it :P

Take care,

WOW

High Fives

No CJ ???

That bling just sings! Who could the ER be? Awesome wicked gold man! That IH is, like so many of your others, just awesome to boot!

I've done very well riding the bank of that river myself. The annual washout leaves silver and copper from one end of that stream to the other for those who like hanging out on the edge. Just makes you wonder how many of what has actually gone into the water there and hit bottom.

This summer in low water maybe we'll do a canoe hunt! Good for three or four hunters in mine, anyone else up for it?

Nice job on the indian cent, both finding it and cleaning it. That jewelry is great too! Awesome finds!

Nice IH Mark ! The wax job makes it look like new again. I'm gonna have to try that.

Nice going Mark!
I guess there's still a few things left out there, huh. That Indian's a beauty.

Man, All the Indian heads you find are in great shape!
That looks as good as that 1866 you got last weekend...

Great finds!! I will have to try that way of cleaning, thanks for the tip!!!

Keep the coil to the dirt....

Thanks for the cleaning tip. I am in the middle of trying it out right now. The first coin I dropped in the HO started bubbling and fizzing and foaming like crazy. I feel like a mad scientist. I can't wait to see the end result. Even if they only look half as good as yours turn out its going to be better than anything else I have tried. I had given up on all old copper. I had been treating my old wheaties like junk before and just rolling them up with the crappy zincs and memorials.
