I took a lot of drive by picture on a trip to the far west of Colorado last Sunday afternoon so I could be back home Monday night. On Sunday all the skiers going east through the Eisenhower tunnel all lined up and on the news that night I heard it resulted into a 2 hour slowdown and summit country ran out of window wash. I stayed in Grand Junction and got going on a snowy early Monday morning to Nucla Colorado. In the town of Gateway the weather was clear, but further down highway 141 it got back into snow flurries again. I gathered what I needed in Nucla and headed to Durango. The roads were clear the whole way. I visited a bit in Durango and headed west on highway 160 and over Wolf Creek pass and took one last shot as I left Saguache in the wide San Luis Valley. I had dinner in Buena Vista and got home Monday about 11: pm

Good pics. Looks like one of our trucks eastbound in that third pic by Dillon. Washer fluid is one thing I can actually get so we never run out here in Breck. You see about that guy who got kicked off the Greyhound by the tunnels and then got in there spraying cars with a fire extinguisher? That shut the place down for a while, but finally resolved peacefully.

No I didn't hear that story. Down the road at the end of the line I saw they just started diverting the traffic off the Dillon exit. I had to do that once in 2019 and go over Loveland. At timberline it was a solid bumper to bumper crawl in a blowing blizzard up top. Not sure how many miles of vehicles were slowly snaking their way east over the mountain. We need a much bigger tunnel I'd say. Back in 1977 the Johnson side wasn't finished and it was necked down to an east and west two lane through the Eisenhower. I was making $8.95 an hour I think at Climax and I went up there to the Johnson Drive and they offered me $13. and change an hour and took me in to check out where they were at. They were driving the upper section with horizontal jumbo drilling and vertical track drills on a bench below that. I can still picture in my mind the enormous cavernous tunnel without all the finished inner lining. There wasn't much left to complete the job and so I decided to stay at Climax rather than make the big bucks for a short while.

Great pictures. Wife and I have been over Wolf Creek Pass and through the Eisenhower tunnel on our motorcycles... But it was in the summer! Great country to visit!
