i went on my first hunt with my lonestar at an abandoned delapitaded stone house just off the road from my place. even though i found a bunch of things; a VW hubcap and its gascap, a pipe with an outdoor faucet, a bunch of corroded(?) metal, and many metal rings with some dried-up leather still attached(horse bridles) i didn't find any coins. i was in disc. mode and most if not all finds were in the silver/zinc side of my lonestar meter( far right). am i doing something wrong? did i eliminate my chance at coins? this area seems to be the underage drinking capital of my county so there was beer cans and trash from the dismantling of the house every 1-2 feet. any info would be helpful as i am still learning my machine

thx

If you were in the silver mode you should have been able to find coins if there is any there . From what you said there may be so much trash , cans , pulltabs ect . that you may be having trouble hearing coins also I have hunted old house sites where there just was'nt many coins to find . HH

Next time you go out, take a shovel, some silver and clad with you, (gold, silver and rings if you want to and even some metal trash too), then when you find a good spot, go to all metal mode and clear a path a couple of feet wide by about 8 feet long. Start digging and burying your coins laid flat and on edge and mark each location with a small piece of wood with the depth, currency and position of the coin under it. Make notes of your MD's settings when you successfully detect and identify each coin. You might want to make several passes through your course, using different setting each time to see how your MD responds.
