All the talk of ghosts...

Two of my experiences:

First, late at night walking out of the bathroom and down the hall to the bedroom, I just about walked into the clearly formed image of an old man just standing in the hallway staring at the wall. I looked at him for a bit, he just ignored me. So I walked around him, to the bedroom and went to bed. This is not how I should have reacted. What I'm saying, is something "influenced" me to just leave the old guy alone.

Second, I awoke one night and for the first time...after a half dozen varied occurances...I actually knew something was going on. I walked out into the hall, didn't look to the right where I'd seen the old guy before, I was a little afraid. I walked into the living room and turned on a light first. Then I started to turn to look into the hall..and the light went out. Kind of like in slow motion, I've never seen a bulb go out like that before. In the hall I saw a white vapor...thicker than steam, right where the old guy had been!

Again, something told me to just leave him alone, so I went and got a soda, turned the tv on, and watched the news for a bit and went back to bed.

i believe it. every morning at 4 am i smell coffee and toast . the old guy that built the house and i bought it fom him was 100 yrs old and he told me he would never leave this house. i believe it.

Thank you for the response

So do you get the same impression that I get...that your guy justs wants to be left alone, or that we should mind our own business?

Normally I'm the type that would have cameras and any other devices available all over the house trying to catch him. But I just can't bring myself to do it. The first time I saw him, I got a good look at him. He's a short bald guy, looks like he's in his late eighties. He had pale, patchy, wrinkly skin and his eyes were deep in their sockets. It looked like he had just come down the steps, and stopped in front of the wall.

What's really odd, is that the wall in that part of the house has a section of it six feet wide that is over two feet thick. Why, I don't know. It's between the hall and the bedroom. The bedroom was an addition, but so was the bathroom and the wall there is standard size. So when the addition was built...they made this thick wall, but why? I haven't torn into it yet, as I like just wondering about it and why kill a good mystery without pondering on it for a few years.

As to our old guys, I hope you have as much fun with yours as I've had with mine. A nice, harmless guy, bit of a prankster. (Dropped a coat hanger on my head once. Opened all the drawers in the kitchen in a "stairway" pattern another time.) And I'm glad they don't seem to mind sharing "their" homes with us.

Dan,

I just recently saw a guy in my barn the other day....this was his place long before it was mine and the love he must have for all of his hard work keeps him here. Sounds wierd, but my house and barn was built in 1856, and I am still enjoying and loving it same as he did 154 years ago. He may have built it, or he may have just lived here, but I have only saw him once in the barn. I would welcome his presence, but dont know if I will ever see him again.

The guy in your hallway kinda scared me....I think its worse reading post's from others than experienceing it personally...that sounds wierd too but it may be understandable...

I will, someday, Monk

But not until I run out of people to show the wall to and watch 'em wonder what's in there! ;D

The space would make a great built in shelf unit in my bedroom. But right now, it's just too much fun. And, that old guy ghost of mine was staring right at that part of the wall. Maybe his stuff is in there...or worse...maybe he is?

My wife did some research...the house was built in 1912. It changed hands several times, always sold to someone and then back to the builder or his family for a couple decades. Then in the thirties an old guy bought it, and a month later his kid (same last name anyway) sold it. We could find no obit for the old guy.

After that, the place finally seemed to find families that actually liked it enough to stay awhile...15, 20 year type ownerships until her about 12 years ago. I'm not going to tell any of her stories...as I figure they are hers. But when we married a few years ago...she told me the place had weird noises and stuff, but nothing happened for about 1 1/2 years. She thought I'd scared her "ghost"(s?) away.

Then one day I walked into the closet and a hanger landed on my head. Square on top...I'd figure it was me knocking one lose if it hadn't come straight down from the ceiling. Then I heard noises of furniture being drug around upstairs...but no one was home but me. These weren't creaks, or thuds..they were extended, loud, dragging noises.

I told my wife later, and she said that was one of the things that "used" to happen to her all the time. Then came the guy in the hall about a year ago. Then the drawers in the kitchen being pulled out, then the "mist?" figure about four months ago. Nothing since then.

I suppose I didn't scare him away as much as he had to get used to me..and then maybe had to establish who's boss?

Back to the subject...that wall. I showed it to my oldest brother and he was ready to tear it down that second. Someday, sure, when I'm done wondering about it.

Dan, I really would be curious what is behind that wall, who knows it could be the old gent, or maybe his stash that he would like to share. Either way it seems with him looking at it, he is pointing you to it.

Goldie, about 20 years ago I lived in an old farm house. What used to be a dairy of the original owner is now a horse farm, actually the back door opened into the pasture. Loved that house.
Every morning between 3:30 and 3:45, the bedroom door would open, locked or not, it opened. The first few weeks took a little getting used too, strange house, door opening, shoes put in front of the door didn't stop it. I finally had the thought, he is just going to the barn for the morning milking.
I asked the landlady and yep, other people really didn't want to stay because of that, but that was all that ever happened. The only concession I made was to oil the hinges.
