Sorry for the crappy picture. These are all of my finds from my home in Cambridge, MA. My house is an old worker's cottage built in 1895.
In baggies:
-a rosary (mostly intact, Jesus is missing from the cross and I believe he may be hiding under one of my mom's plants, so most likely I won't find him)
-clay marbles
-pottery fragments
In jars:
-assorted bones, most likely belonging to animals which is why I've never contacted the authorities. Before most of the houses on my street were built, the area was a trotting park, where they would trot horses. Prior to that, when the area was first settled, I'm sure people owned livestock. In the largest jar is a rib and possibly part of a skull, can't remember what's in the Nutella jar, in the smallest jar is part of a joint, likely the knee. I found another bone, part of a ball and socket joint, last week but I think I left it outside. What I've learned from these bones is that New England obviously gets enough precipitation to make the soil unsuitable for long-term bone preservation. Every one of the bones I have found is extremely brittle, spongy, and will literally crumble in your fingers if too much pressure is applied. They're molding as I type this, which is why I didn't take them out of the jars to display them. While one would expect to find intact, perhaps slightly yellowed or even pretty white, hard bones buried in the desert, what they'll find in damp soil are brown, damp, musty bones that prove that our bodies do indeed eventually become dirt.
Also pictured are:
-a large pair of scissors that were buried only about two inches below the ground
-some weird metal thingy
-a miniature metal shovel (a kid's toy, perhaps? I have no clue)
-a penny from 1961 (big whoop, right?)
-my prized 1897 dime that I found last week
-something that might be a razor blade
-something that I can only describe as part of a metal shoe insert
-a weird metal clothespin-type thing
-a wooden pocket knife that is falling apart
-a fancy drawer handle
-a piece of a pretty painted wooden bowl/cup
-some strange piece of metal
-a marble (boring)
-two bottle fragments, one is milk of magnesia
-a matchbox car
-a "Kramer's Pharmacy" bottle cap, in middle of picture. To the best of my knowledge, there is no longer a "Kramer's Pharmacy" around here.
My favorite finds are the 1897 dime, the rosary (even though I sometimes worry it's cursed), the pocket knife, and the giant scissors.
