So I had an appointment to see an orthopedic doctor this morning so that he can assess my hand. Well, the stitches came out, no problem.

However, after looking at my hand and taking more X-rays, he told me my hand would not only require reconstructive surgery to fix the tendon that was damaged (I thought it wasn't...surprise!), but also physical therapy and a minimum of six more weeks in the splint. I'm going back to the doctor tomorrow for another follow-up, then for surgery either Wednesday or Thursday.

I'm also planning on going back to the bottle dump with an aluminum baseball bat and suit of armor and turning that bottle back into sand.

On a more positive note- I headed out to the woods with Mikewaz, watercolor, and DPS Bob (just missed kimsdad...oops), just for a little while. I found a rocking horse Cracker Jack toy and a 1920 wheatie. I am anxious to get out once my hand is back to normal and the weather warms up. I had a great time Sunday, I want to get out with you guys again soon!

Joe

Love it!

Sorry about that TFF, but those bottles like me to pick them up, we got something going on. Hope it all gets along well for you!

Hey bud, stop by my place and I'll take that finger right off, 3 weeks tops, you can be out diggin again...

ah man! I thought they said there was no tendon damage! >:( So sorry to hear about the new development there. Will keep you in my prayers for a speedy recovery and return to treasure hunting!

Sorry to hear about your tendon and recent discoveries by the doc. But this is why God gave us TEN fingers, you'll be out in no time!

Dang, I wanted to go and video/explore that place this weekend, but it looks like it will be covered in snow.... >:(

Might as well.

I had to go back to the doc this morning so that the surgeon who would be performing the surgery could have a look at it. He told me he'd have to cut the would back open, make additional incisions, and repair the nerve and tendon. Then, for two weeks, my arm in a sling so that my hand is above my heart. Plus a lot of other stuff. So, with that in mind, I am calling Rush tomorrow morning to try and get in to see an ortho for another opinion. Not that I don't trust the doctor I have been seeing, I just don't really like that prognosis and am wondering if I might be treated differently with Rush's better technology. I don't know how I'd work with one arm.

I like Twistidd Frankenfinger, however, the stitches are out now, so that name won't work until I get stitched up again (whenever that happens). I'll keep you all updated. Thanks for the kind words.

After surgery, hyperbaric chamber. . . cuts down recovery time. . . you'll be ready to hunt in no time ::)

All kidding aside, second opinions can't hurt. . . take care bud

Joe you are doing the right thing in getting a second opinion, it never hurts. Tendon damage is delicate stuff and you want the best guy or gal cutting on you. Good luck and I hope you heal soon. SMAN...

Smart move on the 2nd opinion Joe.

I'm not a (licensed :tard:) doctor as you know, but maybe ask a stupid question like " can I have this done in a month or 6 weeks" and see if that might work. My son cut the tendon on his finger last summer so he had a trip to the emergency room. They stitched him up, put a splint on it and that was that. He had to wear the splint for a few weeks, and after he removed it, his fingertip was still hanging down a little. After a few more weeks it went back to normal. Just something to think about.....especially if thet tell you they can fix it down the road if it doesn't heal properly.

Regardless of anyone else says, it's your finger bud, so do what you think's best.

Good Luck Joe!

Well, I'm off to see the Wonderful Wizard of Bones and Joints tomorrow. The finger is worstening and surgery is necessary. As of tomorrow, I'll be wearing a sling for my left arm for an undetermined amount of weeks, but enough to keep me from detecting even on the nicest January warm spell kind of day. I'll keep you all updated. Gotta go...I have to eat something before midnight and time is-a-ticking away.

Take care,

Joe

Good luck Joe, hope we can hook up for grub and gab sometime soon at least.

Help!! Fiend, the swine are guffin' me royally!

Ah the beginning of the year, the changes made on one's behalf...
On the hook for the therapy since the new insurance does not cover those guys and no one of course knew that until I got this far in. But I'm better off than some I hear.

As far as the wallet goes, we can rearrange that sign on the door from Therapist to TheRapist.

Cover that finger Joe!
