This is the write up for the King Alfred penny I found a while back. Sorry it's a bit dry but it's museum talk.
Alfred group 2 (Mercian Style Lunettes) variant 111. London Wessex bonnet coin. Reverse type D (crooks).
Moneyer Herebald unique for this money on this variety. Alfred The Great ruled 871-899 AD.

This is what UK detecting is all about, from my perspective 8) 8) 8)

Makes me want to detect until my arm drops off, & trust me, that won't take too long :D :D
