I grew up in Taney County Missouri, where Alf Bolin killed and robbed without mercy during the Civil War. I have been with my grandfather to murder rocks south of Kirbyville along the old Springfield-Harrison road where he did much of his criminal activity. At one time there was a small grave at that location presumed to be that of a childs, until one day a passerby noticed the grave had been dug up, at the bottom of the hole was the outline of a chest of some kind.
Years later a stranger came calling and asked a local farmer to board him for a few days. Each morning he would leave with a lunch, no tools and be gone all day. This went on for two weeks. The farmer thought he was looking for lead or zinc. The stranger returned for many summers to come following the same pattern. Finally the stranger told the farmer that he would not return again and confided that he had been looking for Alf Bolins treasure. The stranger was looking for a cave. The treasure was supposed to be near this cave. Not in the cave, but it was to be used for a landmark. The cave was known to all of the locals and is in section 20 township 22 range 20 in Taney County Missouri.
Bolin should have amassed quite of bit of jewelry and coinage from all of his robberies.
Has anyone out there looked for this treasure in recent years? Any extra information that readers could provide would be appreciated. I would even like to partner up with someone and search for this. I now live in Springfield about an hour and a half from the cave.
