Alabaster? What is this?

I found this strange piece of rock on the ground. Caught my eye because of it's shape. It is somewhat soft. I could scrape it on cement and it would leave a nice white line almost like chalk. It's soft enough I can scratch it with my fingernail, but not hard enough to make a scratch on my fingernail. It is somewhat translucent, too.

Right on! Yes sir I looked up soapstone pencils and that must be what it is. Makes sense, found it near an old cattle guard somebody probably welded a few years ago and dropped this. Thanks!
