Although its not what you asked, your Airborne pin is from the 187th Airborne Infantry. I don't recognize the hallmark though, which would be the key to it, since the 187th had the same crest since WW2 through VietNam, maybe still?

It appears to be copper or brass though. Did then ever make flashlights out of those materials?

Yes, the copper is a good base for chrome plating, that may have now all disappeared.
