I found this medal in the river yesterday and was wondering if anyone can tell me what it is and the age of it, please. The only marking on it is Sterling.
When I found it, it was covered in a black tar like substance as were many of the tokens found with it. The clean nickel in the first picture is for size comparison.

05 28 29 12 finds 1.JPGmedal before 1.JPGmedal before 2.JPGmedal after 1.JPGmedal after 2.JPG

It's the Army Air Force Technician Badge, see link for more information. First authorized IAW AR 600-35 Change 10 issued January 11, 1943, with the creation of the USAF as a separate branch in Sept 47 it was renamed the Air Force Technician Badge and authorized for wear into the 1960's, interesting note with that is no badges were issued/awarded after the Korean War, and by the 1970's the badge was considered obsolete in the Air Force.

Thanks for the help. We had an Air force base here from 1941 to 1960 so this medal ties in with it.
