Ahoy shipwreckers!!!Anybody know which ship this is? here's the numbers.....

Just wondering if anyone might know the identity/background of an obvious shipwreck that can be seen on Google earth near the cARYSFORT reef just south of Miami.?

here's the numbers: 25 12' 33.95" N 80 14' 47.83" W

Looks like a decent-size vessel that is fairly intact and probably 20th century but their are alot of ships that grounded on the CARYSFORT reeF.

how in the world did u ever find something that small on a satellite pic, were u just browsing the coast of Florida or something?

Hmm...something like that...was basically admiring the beautiful coral reef system of the upper Keys . The waters in this area are really clear and whatever satellite it was picked a good day for a snapshot...probably some of the clearest,cleanest shallow water resolution you can find on google earth...can't wait till they get more high-res shots like this for the rest of the planet...I still need and ID on this ship...any divers in Key Largo or Miami out there...see if you can find out and let me have a finders fee from the take okay?...

The only thing that big I can think of that's close to those coordinates and big enough to see by satellite is the "city of washington" wreck. I don't know how accurate that pointer thingy, that gives the lat/lon on google earth is. Hope this helps fldiver

fldiver may be correct. These are the general coordinates I have for the City of Washington, located on Elbow Reef: Lat 25 08.82 Long 80 15.19.

Please keep in mind too that the lat/lon given on Google Earth are not exact, obviously because we don't know the precise area that the cursor (pointer) represents.

thanks to both of you for your insights...you are probably correct since I recall the "Washington" being around that area and it since this is a large ship and the website said the "Washington was more than 300' in length. Thanks again for responding, it was in my thoughts since i spotted it......

Interesting post, pretty cool I found it using your coordinates..

One problem on the ID though .. I measure the ship at 220 feet not 300... Hope this info helps in further research...

(You can measure on google earth using the tools menu)
