I was able to return the Aggie Class ring to the owner today. Turns out its been lost 23 years. Mikal lives in San Antonio but was in Houston today on business so we met up at a local restaurant.
His wife, who accidentally lost it felt really bad and replaced it a few years ago but he said there is nothing like having the original back. This is a big reason I love this hobby. Being able to return lost items that mean so much to someone.

Yesterday's find of the day...1988 Texas A&M Gold Class Ring.....I think I have already found the owner. Very distinct spelling of his name...I have left a message for him at his office....hopefully he will get back to me. If not, I know where he works which is just 1/2 mile from where I found the ring....Rang up as an 80 on the AT Pro...I thought it was a penny...Imagine my surprise!

Now I am convinced I have the right owner. Just ran a Google Map of his office....It is less than 1/2 mile from the park I found it in....Thanks everyone for the comments. Tomorrow should tell...

MSBeepBeep....I know, Right...that was one heck of a surprise to see that big gold when expecting a tiny copper...

What is the ring dunk....not sure. Is it an Aggie thing?

Yep, the "ring dunk" is a big Aggie tradition.
Started back in the '70s at the (Dixie) Chicken in College Station... It is tradition to drop your ring in a pitcher of beer and chug it down, catching it in your teeth.

My Aggie ring was stolen from a hotel room. Maybe it'll show up some day.

Nice find

Now that would be a fun way to return it!

Scrappy, that sucks....I hope you find it some time....I think I would be tearing the manager a new you know whats if someone stole my military class ring....

Way to go !

UPDATE::: I just spoke with the owner of the ring. He says his then girlfriend, now wife, lost the ring 18 or 19 years ago. He lives about 225 miles away but is coming to Houston tomorrow on business so we are getting together then. I will post pics of the return...

Great find and great that you are making the return...big gold can come in as a high tone...when I first started detecting I was hunting in the water at the beach one day and was digging so many high tone coins that I started to leave them and dig only mid tones...well, three high tones later I scooped a huge 10k wedding band that I thought was another coin...I said right then that I wouldn't ever leave a high tone...Ive dug several high tone gold rings since then.

This is the 3rd gold ring I have dug but by far the biggest. The other 2 were ringing up in the mid 60s on the AT Pro.

Ive found gold rings from 42 to 76 but most have come in the 50s.

Congrats on the gold find!! Hope you get a warm thank you after your return.
TFS and HH!

Nice One !

Good luck on the return today
