I can't stand not knowing how old something is that I dig. This is why coins are nice right....

I have no clue on buttons. Is this old or new? Came out of the same area that I was digging early 1900's stuff.

Anyone know what this could have come off of? I was originally thinking a gate latch, but it appears there's a keyhole in it? The keyhole isn't filled with dirt, that's metal. So perhaps not a keyhole?

looks like maybe a keyed latch like found on an antique icebox refrigerator. the steel pin in the keyhole was to accept a hollow shaft key. as far as age, I'd say probably 1920's to 30's

I believe you nailed it. Did some google imaging and found plenty of similar examples. Thanks!
