Found this key metal detecting. In army air field base pratice area training area is it related to that? Or civillian? Any idea on the age? Is it related to the air field buildings or base or training practice area? The key says made in usa on one side and on the other side it says X 270 chicago ill lock co. What does X 270 stand for? 20210207_014346.webp20210207_014402.webp20210207_014414.webp20210207_014424.webp

X270 is the manufacturers key code for the key. In this case X270 is a double sided double bit key for a lock. This number tells a locksmith or key cutter the type of key needed.

Could be both military and civilian related. As for a date couldn't tell you, as they are still used today and Chicago locks was located in Chicago Illinois from 1920 until 1995, when it moved to Wisconsin.

^ what Mike said.
I would add that the key looks to be the kind for low-security locks, such as you might find on upright file cabinets, small petty cash boxes, etc...
It is not a padlock key, ignition key, door key, etc...

Pretty common. I had a gum ball machine a few years back that used the same key.
