Age of this acorn pendant?

Found this in a lot that's yielded coins dating as far back as the late 1850s (Flying eagle cents). Looks like this spot has been in use from the mid/late 1800s to today. Can anyone guess the age of this pendant? It looks like the top part has a small loop where a chain would go. Thanks for any help!

I seem to recall, not long ago there was an acorn posted that opened up with spikes protruding from it
I think it was attached to a chain, put into a pocket.
When pulled on the spikes would shoot out and catck on the cloth of the pocket.
a anti pickpocket device.
If memory strikes me right.

Acorn mounts pop up over here from time to time, not quite sure of there use, but probably had a chain attached to it, so a number of uses, think they date over here from the 1700's.
