I found this ring the other day and had posted it on the Todays Forum. What I was wondering if anyone would have an idea of the age of it. It was found at a 1700's house still in use. So that means it could date anytime up to a week ago :laughing7:. Well thanks for looking and helping if you can.

Well, I'm no expert by any means but I think its safe to say it has some age to it by the wear on the stamp on the inside of the ring. How deep was it? Great find, by the way.

not that old - maybe up to 30 yrs old - maybe 1 yr
older silver is marked sterling - they stopped mostly around the 70s
now everyone uses 925

The European Community adopted 925 as it's official symbol for fine silver in 1973. England followed soon after ( 1976 I believe ). Before that England used a lion passant ( lion looking forward ). Don't recall exact year America adopted this, but was in same time frame. Having said all that, your ring most definitely is after mid 1970's since 925 is visible in your photos. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks ALL that is what I was thinking but just wanted to reassure my thoughts on the age of the ring.
