What I'm showing here, is what I'm pretty sure is a Ku Klux Klan token. I'm sorry about the poor quality of the photos, but this is the best that I could get it. It appears to have been in a fire at some time, and this has added to its' problems. Its about the size of a half dollar and appears to be made of brass.

What I will call side one, has a Crown at the top, with a square in the center, with designs that appear to look almost like drums on either side of the square. On the left side and in the design are the words "WITHOUT FEAR AND", on the right side are the words "WITHOUT REPROACH". On the bottom is the word DUTY. The box in the center has two double circles with sometype of blob, and the date of 1866.

On side two is a cross with rays originating out of it. At the crossarms of the cross is a large circle with a triangle with the letters AKA with either a small l or capital I going thru the K. Around the edge it says ONE COUNTRY ONE FLAG ONE LANGUAGE. On either side of the top of the cross are the letters K I and on the bottom of either side of the cross are the lettrs G Y. I do know that this stands for Klansman I Greet You.

KKK token reverse.webp

My questions are, does anyone know what the letters inside the triangle stand for, the aproximate age of this token, and what's the deal with the date of 1866 in the box.

Thanks for your help.

1866 is an important date to the group, it was their "founding"
AKA means Allied Klans or Klansmen of America.

I would date that one at around 1915 or so, but those were produced in so many different variations and from the late 1800s to the 1940s, so i would refer that to someone more knowledgeable.

This website has a HUGE listing of them: http://www.cdgale.com/kidd/

(yours looks like lot 11 through 13) http://www.cdgale.com/plates20/mb20plate0.htm

Edit: GREAT, NOW I'm on some "hate group' watch list.....
:-)
Thanks for the website and the info. Never knew that there was that many different tokens out there.

As for being on someone's hate list, I suppose that it's almost like being a Democratic member of congress at the current time.

No, they would be the ones screaming at you accusing you of BEING the "hate monger", "racist", etc. That's how you negate someone's message, you try to guilt them into shutting them up. They've been doing it since they were waving signs and yelling "baby killer" in the 60s.
Only now they have positions of authority.
Doesn't really matter....every politician has LIED to get where they're at..DEM or REP....Liars ALL!!!!!
By the way cool token. Not the best history found but history none the less!!!

I found one also, but it is a little different. I just wanted to add: If you'll notice, the letters in the triangle are AKIA. This stands for "A Klansman I Am".
