Well found this tonight (was metal detecting with a flash light :dontknow: )

Its dimensions are:
5.5inches across (widest points)
roughly an inch tall.

It appears to be shaped like a shell... idk maybe thats just me..

really rusted so im guessing iron. Looks like a bowl to me, but why an iron bowl? I was thinking hubcap but a hubcap wouldnt be that small...

the older a hubcap is the smaller it is untill it only covers the axle hub.

howwever you say its iron and it looks asymetrical so its anyones guess.

I was thinking hubcap to, but odd shaped one... also if you notice in the 2nd pic in the first post... it has almost like a stand to the right... the bottom is not totally flat..so would make sense that its a stability stand for a bowl... no clue on age tho.

IF ... Iron like you say... Stove top cover...

IF... another lighter metal...
Could be exhaust "flap" for fumes flume perhaps.

OR... Could also be from wood stove... or fireplace... "Ash door".

Vintage meter flap cover perhaps.

Maybe the lid to a teapot similar to this: ANTIQUE #7 CAST IRON TEA POT KETTLE WOOD STOVE - SWING LID HANDLE - PRIMITIVE
I see what you mean about the nautilus (shell) shape, but I think it has rusted away to that shape. If it were a teapot lid then the swivel would had to have rusted off too I suppose. Am I seeing it right that there is a little tab protruding off of one side?

The first thought that came to me was an electric motor dust cover.

Looks like it, but would it be that big? 5 inches is pretty big for a tea pot cover... Also i dont think it rusted away, it looks made that away, but its rusted, so hard to tell..

Vhs... those are called a "Toas-Tite ".
They were designed and meant to be used in the kitchen on a stove... and never meant for campfires...
They were Aluminum.
And they are smaller... prolly 4 1/2 inches.
BUT...
Visually ... Similar... minus the other raised parts though.

Ate many of those as a kid.
