This one I dedicate to Against The Wind for all his inspirational posts here on the forum.
(Told ya' it was coming).
Heck-they are all inspirational--I guess that's the idea!
But, I have enjoyed ATW's silver slide shows-always great finds. (Not that I am downplaying anyone else!)
So, today I got me some. Been a long time since I had such a great day with silver.

The post really should have been Against All Odds-but it was a chance I had to take.

Started out 6 months ago that I asked a permission to do a well known festival site that was quite a drive from my house.
The site is very historical and goes back to the late 1800's.
It seems they don't really let anyone detect there--at least not in recent years. Something must have happened. I did not ask. I don't want to know really.
I had to contact the committee and then they forwarded it to the chairman. And, I believe I contacted them twice.
Then I got the contact for the chairman.
I explained myself and then was told I had to check back in the Fall.
Contacted the chairman again, and got the OK, but had to give a call before I went out.
Then I tried to call, but had the wrong phone number given to me.
Contacted the chairman again via email and received the correct phone # this time.
Gave the chairman a call and we spoke a bit, and then I was given a solid permission!

[[((So I got a permission to do a fire department's grove not long ago.
Looked promising as it was dated to the 1930's and it was fairly sizable.
I got there and there was a gravel pack so far down it was ridiculous. You could not even cut a plug effectively. No deep signals. Conduit everywhere!!! It was grass above rock even asphalt! And I mean EVERYWHERE!))]]:BangHead:

What does that have to do with anything? Here you go:
I get to the site today and first thing I notice is the gravel pack. I walked for yards and yards and could not thrust the blade of my Lesche to the hilt.
I am looking around and I am seeing so much gravel and gravel packed lawn. Everywhere I thrust my Lesche it jams to rock.
I was sooooo discouraged and about ready to just give up. Could not believe it.
A big sigh and I look around.
I had done some research on comparing old photo's to the current day, and I just went forward. I was not going to quit now.
It could not be all stone and grass grown asphalt.
I did some walking around...a little detective work...and bingo!
There was so much clad I had to literally sift between the signals.
Could not possibly dig it all--no way.
When was the last time anyone detected here I wondered?
I did my best surgical work and came up with these keepers:

This is my 3rd 1934 Quarter this season!
What are the odds? What the heck does that mean?:-\:-\
(I guess it really is Against All Odds???!!!!)
I mean I dug this plug--I knew it was a quarter--and I knew it was more than likely silver. It was a solid quarter signal with a little dance.
I do not cut many plugs like this (10" x 10"), so I was preparing for something that has been eluding me for soooo long.
This was a definite 10" down!
As I pulled it out of the hole-I am like Barber-it is a Barber! It was a mirage I saw!
I mean c'mon already!
(Not that I am complaining, but enough already. I was in the right place history wise).
I mean I totally gave up on finding a Standing Liberty. :tongue3: Did not even see a mirage of that!

Below is a hunt from a few days ago from a small park that dates back to the early 40's:

I love hunting a clad infested site that has a few silvers sprinkled in. You found a great spot and invested the time to secure the permission. Kudos to you. I'd say you were rewarded with those 5 silvers in that one hunt. :hello:

Congratulations! That loks like a great spot that will continue to produce!
I feel your pain on the rocks. Here in NW Arkansas, it's like that *everywhere*, and you just have to get used to it.

I like your persistence to get the permission. If given the wrong number most would give up. Way to keep at it. Congrats on the silver!

Some sweet silver, congrats.

Congrats on the silver rewards and for not giving up on the site.

Great finds, great day! And it sounds to me like you should play 3-4-3-4-3-4 on a lottery ticket, it's your lucky number for sure.

Congrats on the silver score

So all that patience paid off big time.Great finds on all those silvers. A coin that deep is something else to dig.

Thrifty would like to add that your 1934 quarter looks like an au one to me.

You really rocked it buddy,, WTG,
By the way,, You Talking To Me?? lol

LOL only in respect!
Love seeing a solid park hunter as yourself posting the silver!
Very inspiring! (Esp. the Barber's --which like to hide on me. :-\)

Ty, thrifty.
It really is in nice shape; good luster.
I noticed it today when I put it in my "keeper finds box".
Don't get me wrong. It's a real nice find.
Just a little variety is kind of nice. :happy3:
Guess, I have to try and turn the time dial on the WayBack Machine even further. :icon_study:
Keep on Keeping On.

Ty Rustic!
I cannot believe the odds.
I am thrilled for a great hunt, but also crying I can't find the Barber!

Nice silver show! Keep them coming!

Nothing in comparison to your posts Scrappy!
But, thanks!
I had the privilege to know what it felt like to detect back in the 80's for one day! LOL!
Always love looking at what you dig up. You and Vino! I mean...who doesn't?

I don't think it was a repeat invitation.
Which is why dragged the day out as long as I could.
But, yes...there was some more.

As for the rocks, I guess it depends on the number of layers and when it was laid down.
How do you do in it?
I can see it dulling out The Lesche real quickly.

Loco-Dig I was literally prying the quarters to my left and right from just under the grass in some areas. I got so tired of wasting my time on them I gave up. I am sure I could have dug shallow clad for days.
I needed pl8man with me! LOL!
Ty! Love your posts!
