Hey folks, spent the last week driving 50 miles in every direction, stopping at old shipping ports ,one room schoolhouses, beaches, old campgrounds, you name it and was completely skunked on anything old. After three hours in the water with the icebergs and no rings,I decided to head home and give the yard another try.I decided last week whoever owned my house before must have been a scrap metal dealer.Tried a new spot at the front by the road and found a 1917 big penny ,a 1940 silver dime,1920 wheat cent and a 1920 Canadian cent, also a button ,compact lid with fake diamonds ,a trumpet mouthpiece and a great lead anchor.Which is extra neat because my house once belonged to Captain Crawford who went down with his ship the JH Jones November 22nd 1906 in Georgian bay with all hands and passangers.Nothing was ever seen again except one body in January 1907,that was washed ashore on Christian island wearing a jones life preserver.Maybee the anchor was part of his sons model ship? ;)

Happy Hunting,

Thanks Nick ,sorry I didnt specify, the dime & big penny are Canadian Ehhh ;D
P.S. I need a new camera

AWWW...neat story to go with that anchor. :) Sounds like you need to spend a good bit of time in your yard! ;) Those are some great finds!

Congrats! Nana :)

Great finds drQuest. Love the anchor.....neat history. Better search that yard some more.

HH
p.s. We like your country! We camp there every summer....have been to Grundy Lake PP and Algonquin PP among others.

Nice finds. Like those Canadian Large Cents. I have a small(10-15) collection of them.

We have similar experiences - go to new "promising" sites and come home with squat. Go to the sites you regularly hunt and come home with something good. I think it's because most sites take time to really hunt. A few hours and you are just starting to learn the site.

Id say your right Mirage,The yard keeps producing because I can dig all the signals over time.If I dig all signals at the parks,Id never leave.
HH ;)

Nice finds and great story. Thanks for posting your story and pictures.

Looks like a neat place to go back and hunt again.

Just love the anchor.... That story is so sad :'( but that is the perils of the sea.... Makes you think what else he has dropped at your house?

Keep looking, never give up your treasure is out there ;)

God bless
Peter

Its hard to tell from the pictures, but I'm guessing that 1920 Canadian cent is the large one? Theres info on Canadian coinage here:

And here:

If all your finds are near home, I'm guessing your going to be looking at the neighbors next? ;)

F.
Thanks for the site Functional. The 1920 is the small cent we made both that year.I can only hope to detect my nieghbors, big victorian with a 1/2 acre, never soded over ;)

Wow doc, that's a great story, your house has such a cool history and it's interesting to know who was there before you..the anchor is nearly a giveaway as to who left it behind.

We had good friends from the Netherlands who moved away in the late 70's..my uncle bought the house about 10 years ago..I got to search it and found a Netherlands coin by the fence in the back yard..kinda neat knowing who left it there.
