New to the forum and metal detecting. I have been around four or five times and have been using the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV. Some cool finds with it in the four or five times I have went. However I have a fun little game going on when I hunt, whatever I find goes towards a new Metal Detector, so as I find, I save for a new one. I know that I want a good relic and coin hunting Metal Detector. I live in Missouri, so would I need one with something for the ground balancing stuff I hear about?

So, my question is, which Metal Detector do I save up for if I want a Coin and Relic hunter that has nice depth, hunts coins, relics, and cost around 300-500. I do not need fancy bells or whistles, I do not need waterproof, or a pin pointer. Just a nice, quality metal detector that will last me.

I have heard good things about the Bounty Hunter Platinum and how it was 500 dollars but is going for 300 right now. Any advice on this from people who do not frequent the BH boards and hold brand loyalty?

Thank you for all you help and information!

Having a ground balance option is always a good thing to have.
Do you need it? I guess that would depend on the individual. I have ground balance options on my MDs'.
I can't comment on the machines in the $300-$500 range, but if you ease the budget up to $600 The AT Pro is a good choice.

Good Luck in your quest, keep on digging!

Would you happen to have a little info on the depth it could find coins or relics by chance? Perhaps coins in tone/disc mode too?

I have to say I have looked at it and right now it looks like a great detector. I had it bookmarked even before I asked.

Does the lifetime warranty cross over from owner to owner, I know a used one right now for 380 but not sure of it.

The AT ProI have heard about it being good but I really wanted to keep the price down because I will be earning this all through my hunts.

Great depth in Discrimination mode - I have hit silver dimes at 10" with it (discrimination set just below nickel), and even DEEPER in All Metal mode! The warranty does NOT transfer, but Tesoro will STILL fix it Free most of the time! Ask around, it is a GREAT machine. Good luck no matter what you buy!

When you ask about tone mode the vaquero has only one tone.

You have me sold, I read up since you posted on it and watched videos and read about it. Truly I believe this is the treasure hunting machine for me!

Would you have any suggestions on who to buy from?

My brother is saying instead of using the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV and getting the money through finds, just switch up now so I can find more to cover the cost. Do you think this is a good assessment, how deep does the Bounty Hunter IV detect? Seems it goes 3-4 inches in disc mode at most. I have found around 40-50 coins in my current location, a silver ring and a silver dime. Think their might be more to be had with a deeper seeking MD? The place is old.

Vaquero is a very good choice imho. l like mine a lot.

Yes if cost is paramount probably the Tesoro is your best bet :coins:

Thanks everyone for the helpful information!
