Hi guys really need some help. My sin is 8 years old and has Been wanting a metal detector for along time. This will be his 1st one so needing some advice in which 1 to get him as I haven't got a clue.
He doesn't just want it as a toy he's quite interested in finding interesting things as he says.
Not wanting anything too complicated for him but wanting something that does a good job at a good price as im on a budget. Nothing too heavy either as again he's only 8. Been looking at the BOUNTY HUNTER VLF 2.1... Is this any good?? Can any1 help please

If your son is wanting to find "interesting things" you might want to take a look at the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV or one of the detectors that has a few more bells and whistles. Bounty Hunter makes a unit called the "QuickDraw II" and it has a lot of high-end features with a budget price. The QuickDraw II can be had at Amazon for about $160 and you might get a similar price from one of the metal detecting retailers listed on TreasureNet. I'd suggest a pin-pointer, too (small metal detector with very short range to find things hiding in the dirt "plug" you just dug looking for what the big detector says is in the hole).

Have a look at the Tesoro Compadre ($160.00). Lightweight, turn on and go, great re-sale value if he doesn't stick with it.

My grand kids get to choose between a tesoro, bounty hunter, and a 250. If three want to go whoever gets stuck with the tesoro is always poopy. They don't like how plain and only makes one tone. Their 7 to 12 and way more techy than me and like bells and whistles. I would recommend the bounty hunter tracker 4.

if u have a hobby lobby near u,they have a bounty hunter tracker IV for 109.00...but u can get a 40 % off coupon online

A garrett Ace 250 would be a great little detector for him if he doesn't stay in it you can make your money back on that detector or if he does stay in it you can upgrade it to a better detector. I have 2 girls both teens & they have used my little 250 a lot easy to use and does a super job. You might even get into it yourself you never know just my 2 cents worth but there are many machines out there to choose from but I would go with the Ace 250 hope this helps

My choice would be the Tesoro Silver uMax for about $240. Very easy to use, very lightweight, uses only one 9 volt battery, and comes with a LIFETIME warranty too. Tesoro's are great machines, and I never had an issue with my Silver uMax. I used the Silver uMax for about the first 8 years of my detecting "career" and have cases and cases of relics to show for it. It will find all the goodies you are seeking too (coins, buttons, tokens, jewelry, toys, etc.).
Good luck to you,
MM

i agree..

Thankyou to every1 for all your help and suggestions very much appreciated.
I am torn between the ace 250 and fisher f2. Also looked at the ace 150. Any feedback on these would be a great help. Don't want something that's gunr break the bank but still have interesting finds with it. Also not heavy as he's only 8.
The Tesoro silver umax seems great but a little pricey.
Also undecided on the bounty hunter tracker lv what somebody mentioned.
There's just so many to look at :-/
Very confusing

Hey a bounty hunter or an teknetics alpha 2000 will do, anything under $200. Remember, he's 8. I have 10 y.o. twin boys. They were get all excited about something then when they do it, find out it's not their cup of tea. How much do you want/have to gamble on this possibility? (if you get him a Garrett 250 or AT and he decides he doesn't want it, I'll buy it from you). Also, remember in order to find something, someone: had to be in that exact spot (research), lost/buried something, and that something has not been recovered by someone else yet. Also, he WILL find A LOT of trash before the good stuff. It's a learning curve with the device, luck of the terrain. If he's going to dig every signal, it will happen and that's normal.

Ok thankyou vey much for your help. This has all been so confusing for me coz there's so many different 1s to choose from n having no experience I had no idea where to start. So many different opinions aswell. I got set on 1 then saw people's opinions so I'd change my mind

I have the Ace250 and the Fisher F2 and I can tell you that the Ace250 isn't half the machine that the Fisher F2 is. The F2 is a very fast, strong performance metal detector and is great for coin hunting and relic hunting. Mine has found targets twelve inches deep in wet sand on freshwater beaches. It has found coins and relics over eight inches deep in Ohio clay. I am very impressed with the F2 --for the money, it's hard to beat.

Thanks for that appreciate the advice. It's for my 8 year old son but the way I'm gettin into all this I'll be taking over it haha

Aww I will do really can't wait myself haha...
Pics to follow..
Hopefully! Can't wait to see his face Xmas day
