I found a Mint Whites MXT 300 on Craigslist for a great price. I really think that this detector was barely used. I will use it as a backup to my DFX and probably carry it around with me most of the time in case I find a cool detecting place. I took it out for a while yesterday and she worked like a champ. I wish it had tone ID but other than that it's a great machine. It's a little lighter feeling than the DFX with the probe on it so it will be nice to pull out and work a tot lot or something. I think my next buy will be another 6x8 SEF coil where I won't have to keep switching it out with the DFX. I love that coil and on the presets the MXT easily ID'ed a silver dime at 7-8 inches. I got a tone deeper but no ID. I read that the 5.3 coil ID's bottlecaps better than the DD coil so I may go with one of those instead of duplicating. I had one on my old XLT that I used a lot. So far I really like the MXT and the ID seems very accurate with the confidence block. It's nice to have two detectors again.

I think the MXT is one of the best detectors out there and with the MXTpro you get the tone ID but they wasn't out when I got mine. HH

The simplicity of this detector is like a breath of fresh air for me. I have been through a lot of detectors in the last few years and it's nice to just turn one on and detect. I love my DFX also but the MXT is easier. Technology that works is great but there is a lot of fluff out there.

Nice, please don't tell me anything good about it.. I will want one!
Hey, just bought another FM transmitter, will post how it is when I get it.. It can be set to mono (always quieter than stereo) crossing my fingers it is as good as the reviews say it is.
Amazon.com: Signstek CZE-T200 0.2W Portable Stereo FM Transmitter Power Long Broadcast Range Adjustable Frequency 87~108MHz and 76~90MHz (Optional): Electronics

Whites rod is 3/4" id, if you pop the plug out of the the end (below the battery door) you can place a 3/4 dowel with a small piece of wood to velcro the TX to and it acts as a counter balance. :-)
Have not tried it in the field but I think it is going to be great (woods and bush hunting may be a problem.

Congrats on the latest deal and new machine!

Yep I like the turn on the fly settings when all you want to do find some good targets and you don't have a lot of time to detect. I can get dimes at 10"+ and have pulled a few at a full 12" before with the D2 coil, I tried for more depth with the detech ultimate 13" coil didn't get any deeper but it does hit a little better on those coins sitting on edge at the 10"+ mark. HH

I had one and as far as im concerned its just as good as the pro even with out all the bells and whistles and I had the 8x6 sef and it was a killer for now I am waiting for my new mxt all pro to come in to replace my mxt pro that cant be fixed ,vanzutphen

Yep, MXT ( original up thru the MXT ALL Pro) are great machines. IF you hunt in the Relic Mode (Iron ID) you can at least hunt in 2 tones with your MXT 300. Low tone (grunt) for ferrous and high tone non-ferrous. Pescadore, what coil(s) did you get with your machine ??

It came with the Super 12 but I will probably sell it, I have the 10x12 SEF, 6X8 SEF, 950, and 4x6. I want to buy another 6x8 SEF since thats what I use most on both detectors.

the 12" is a good coil, however, it is kinda a big heavy coil. Had they placed were the rod attaches to the coil more towards the center it would have balanced better. But ya I would sell it. If I need a big coil i will use a 10 x 12 SEF although most the time a 9" spider coil is my big coil. Of the other coils you mention i also have a 8 x 6 SEF and that is a nice coil. However, my #1 choice coil on my M6/MXT is the Eclipse 5.3 When hunting ghost towns that are iron infested I found that the Eclipse 5.3 did a better job at separating and VDI numbers much tighter. The 4x6 I tried but again the 5.3 was the better performer. When I need a small coil I have had luck and good performance with the 5" round Detech DD coil.

Congratulations on the new addition to the "family".

This brings me to a question. I have a DFX 300, but I have used it very little. I am actually serious about selling it.

Anyway, I acquired a MXT on a trade recently. I've always wanted an MXT and it is more intuitive for me because I used a White's for many years that had knobs. I also think it would be easier for a person new to detecting to use and I try and keep machines on standby for people. Which one should I keep?

I also have the V3I, but with all the machines that I use it isn't getting the workout it deserves. I have a buddy that wants it and I am contemplating on selling it to him. I can say that I can navigate and use the V3I, but I am far from being completely competent in it and I lean more toward either the MXT or DFX.

without a doubt I would sell the DFX, just never was the best performer, a properly set up XLT would do better. I would keep and use the MXT. If I was told that I could have one machine and one machine only it would be without a doubt a MXT. You can't find a better more versatile machine that will have you covered in most hunting situations. It will handle iron infested sites very well, is able to hunt in highly mineralized soils, such as places were gold is found. You have a great coil selection, ranging from a small round 5" detect DD coil to as big as a 13" Ultimate coil and everything in between. You have ground balance, threshold, ability to lock the ground balance for those trashy sites. 3 modes of operation ( C&J, Relic and Prospecting) and if you have a newer MXT Pro or All Pro you also will have a back light, 7 tones and Ground Grab, the three buttons on the TID display. In my opinion the MXT is a hard machine to beat, unlike the V3i that you also have, the MXT is simplicity combined with top end performance. lol i read this post and i sound like a MXT salesman.............But of the three machines that you mention, I personally would go for the MXT. Myself I use the M6 and a MXT Pro. I mainly hunt iron infested ghost towns etc and they perform well. If I want to hunt more open areas I can put on a bigger coil and do that also. However, if I had a DFX or V3i, neither would be the best choice to tackle old ghost towns etc that are iron infested.

Thanks for the reply. I had a IDX Pro and like that machine, but it doesn't do well in trashy areas like the newer models do. I got a Prism 6T on a trade and hooked a local guy up on it really cheap. I wouldn't mind having a M6 or a newer Prism on the side for a loaner. (Seems I always need two loaner machines besides the machines I use.) I moved a DX-1 probe over to the MXT today, but with the toggle all metal, it doesn't work that well so I am going to part ways with that also, and I like a separate PP anyway.

The MXT Pro sounds like a great machine. I've actually always wanted a Pro model. Seems like I get a lot of White's on trade for some reason. I recently acquired a pristine DI 6000 series 2, a 1980s model, and it amazing how much White's was ahead of other companies back in the day.
