This Adams County Constable badge was found in Adams County Mississippi. It measures 2" X 1.75". It is brass with gold paint. Can anyone help me determine the age based on the attached pictures? I think the attachment pin device is the key to dating this item, but I have no idea what era this would be from. The office of Constable is still active in Adams County so this could be old or very new. Any help on this is appreciated.

Why not call the county constable? Maybe visit their office, I bet they should be able to answer your inquiry.

There might be a story behind it, if you turn it in you could be accused of stealing it. If you decide to report it get a photo of you returning it, its not worth much, no number or date.

Wowzers, Great find! Was that found with a metal detector? First, you are under no obligation to return that to any Adams County (there are many in the USA) Constable's Office, as it is truly an antique and an out-of-date design. Based on construction and design, I would estimate dates of usage at 1915ish to 1940's. The pin is known as a "spring pin," and the catch is known as a "tube" catch, very old indeed. The way the badge is slightly bent and forms a hump along the ridge opposite of the pin indicates it was in a wallet for years and sat upon many times. Congrats on a super, collectible badge. More and more Constable's positions/offices are being absorbed by the county Sheriff's departments in the USA. Sub 8-)

Yes, this was found several years ago in the woods while detecting a Civil War site. I had hoped this would be a Civil War era badge, but the pin attachment looked too modern. Thanks to all of you who helped identify this as an early to mid 20th century badge.
