Hi everyone,

Had to test the Ace out just one more time. Make sure it was good and not just luck.

I went out alone today to one of my old parks I like to hunt.

I decided to find area's I haven't pounded with my dfx. If there's trash there is still treasure to be found.

About 15 minutes or less into the hunt I dug a wheatie. I stayed in the same area on a bluff and continued to hunt.

Picked up alot of tabs in between but I am trying to learn the machine and not miss anything either.

As I got to the top of the bluff I got a nice quarter signal at the bas of a big tree. Locked on it said 4 inches down.

Dug down and found a really nice 1908 barber quarter in e.f condition I would say.

I didn't want to clean it because it was in nice shape. Just a rince with soap and water for this one.

My book list it at 70.00 in e.f. And 32.00 in v.f. It's easily a 50.00 coin. Nice to find things worth something. I don't sell anything.

It was 90 out today so I only hunted for about 1 hr and 45 minutes.

I continued to hunt near a small creek in the woods. Kids loved to play around them back in the day.

I got a decent pulltab screw cap signal near a large tree base. I dug down and found a Indian. Rim was completely gone but hey it's a Indian. Most from these woods are in terrible shape from the tree's and acidy ground.

I rechecked the hole and found another right on the surface in the loose dirt from the same hole. I filled it in stepped not 6 inches to sweep.

I got the same signal dug down found another then another. 4 Indians in one little pocket.

The dates were 1 1879 1 1897 1 1892 and 1 1881. All in the worst shape you could imagine.

Tomorrow I will give the ace to my dad. Teach him how to use it and hope we have a good time together hunting.

My hat is off to Garrett's for making a low end machine that performs so well.

Thanks for looking,

HH Jer

nice barber. how were you able to tell those were indian heads?

Ive got the Garett Ace 250 and The White 6000 Di Pro... I end up using the 250 90 percent of the time...Go figure?... Great finds!!!!!

Excellent job Jer.Hope you and dad make some memorable hunts....Joe

great finds jer! the ace will find most targets.........to about 8 inches max in my soil around here. most of my finds were in the 4 inch and under range though, but i have dug a wheatie at about 8. one thing about the ace, and just about every garrett machine i have used, it loves silver. it will ring in a real solid strong, unforgettable sound when you hit a silver coin. your dad is going to love it!

very nice -- shows you that even some of those starter machines will still find the good stuff -- nice digs!

Thanks guys,

I'm about to get one of these little suckers for the wife or my son. There decent for the price.

I'd even use it. It's light weight and would work great as a back up.

Renegade, the scan doesn't show them well. But if you look hard you'll see the bottoms of there necks and the outlines of there head.

The dates are still legible. But they are pitted bad. They were more clear the dates until I decided to try and futher clean them.

I'll do that to them when there this bad. There not worth anything but sentimental value anyways.

Not to brag either but I have found hundreds of indians to know how to tell. Plus the detector reads them in a totally different vdi number or category on some machines.

I'm still impressed. I didn't expect a 200.00 machine to find old coins as well as it did.

But I work even my dfx as hard as it can go. So putting myself on the machine I was bound to find something with the dig all method.

Some nice finds. At least the Quater was in nice shape. :)

The "dig everything" approach really works well in the right spots. Anything with early 1900s or 1800's is a dig all in my book. I think the Ace 250 would be comparable to my Classic III but with a graphical readout. Have to let us know how your dad makes out with it.

Nice review on the Ace, Jer. :) How does it do on the hot rocks? Can you descriminate them out?

Great looking barber, too......and those indians sure look familiar....all eaten up and corroded like that. ::) 8)

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Mirage, You got it. If your in a old area you gotta dig it all. That's exactly what I do. Alot of the times I am very surprized to get a pulltab signal and find a really cool relic.

I have even found cool stuff in the nickle foil range. You just never know.

I compare the ace to atleast the clasic i.d from whites. My brother had one. The thing I like about the ace is it has tone i.d.

It helps to. This little unit will let you know when you've encoutered a keeper.

Lisa, It liked hot rocks. Read them fairly well. I turned the disc up just a little and it calmed it down.

On this machine you just concentrate on solid signals.

It's not like a dfx where you'll get a broken signal dig down 8 inches and find a coin.

The signals are solid on the unit. If you can't re pick up the signal almost immediately with this detector then it isn't there. It's just falsing so move on.

Hope this helps some,

HH Jer
