ACE 250 water rig.

I'm trying to come up with an idea as to how to use my ACE-250 dectector in shallow water. My thought is to remove the head from the shaft, put it in a waterproof "baggie" and put it on a rig on an inner tube. Somehow attach the coil to the side of my foot. The depth would be controlled by the length of the coil wire. No headphones would be needed. Any ideas as to how and if this would work?
