Ace 250 questions

Been using my ACE 250 for 3-4 months now.
I have to say I am not as pleased as I thought I was going to be. I have only found one coin ever beyond 4 inches. Most everything I find is at three inches.
I have some cool things but just am not happy with the depth I am getting at all. I stick with the stock coil now. I had the sniper coil but the first time I used it in water it filled up with water and was destroyed.
Would the large coil get me any better depth or should I just save up money and go higher end then the 250?

First of all the sniper coil is water proof. I'm sure Garrett will resolve any problem short of abuse. About depth. The first thing that comes to mind is research. Are you hunting the right spots? Is the ground very hard? Are you over lapping your sweeps by at least 50%? Are you keeping the coil very low and perfectly level with the ground? Are you using the highest sens setting without falsing? Are you using high disc? Most finds are not that deep. 3 to 5 inches is the norm. In an air test set up outside with the coil up toward the sky. Stock coil. Sens maxed out. All metal mode. Should hit a clad dime at 8 to 9 inches measured with a wood or plastic ruler. This is not meaning that you'll hit a dime at 8 inches in your soil. It's just a little test. Post back so we can help.

I got my ace last night and found a few things but i gotta say. That depth goes pretty good. I think it does depend on the soil your in.

I started with just the base coins option when i turned it on.

I searched. I found a wheat penny at 8 1/2 inches deep. I thought I was going to china.

Then i found a little piece of wire at 7 inches that was only a quarter inch long.

One thing to check is how your coil is positioned and your sensitivity if its to high it makes it hard to search. Keep the top two notches off.

Look for older places. Might not be deep coins if your not in the right place.

Let me know if you have any questions.

sorry for hijacking your thread, its just i didn't want to make another ace250 thread :P

I just wanted to know if you can get a european version of the ace 250, so it shows euro coins on the front instead of american coins

I presume it doesn't really matter anyways?

Thanks

Andy,
The only other version is a CSI model. It has different bullet casings etc. on the VID for police to use.

I just love the 250. I have found quite a lot of coins at more than 8 in. I'm using the 6x9 coil, have had it in water, gets a little confused in salt water but not bad. You have too dig all the pull tab hits if you want white gold or platinum. For coin shooting it would be hard to beat the ACE. All detectors have a learning curve so start out with all metals setting max sensitivity. The pinpointing works well after you get the hang of it.
Go out and practice on some throw downs to see what they do, dig a few test holes at different depths and seed them with different objects. Then just go have fun!!

First of all you should contact Garrett about the coil and they will replace it for free. It was obviously faulty as they are completely waterproof. If you aren't finding coins any deeper than that then there may not be any there deeper than that. Are you running your sensitivity at four bars? Also scan with the coil at least an inch off the ground. Have you air tested your detector to get an idea of how it is performing depth wise? You should be hitting quarters at an easy eight inches. Plus the soil in your area may be a problem.

The big coil covers more ground and gets you about 2-3 inches more in depth but it also sees a lot of targets at one time so would be a pain in trashy areas. In big, wide open, fairly clean areas it will work great.

I have had my ace for 2 years now. The depth is good depending on soil conditions.
I mainly use the stock coil. I have pulled out Mercs and Barbers at 6 inches no problem.
Large Canadian cents at 8 inches and even 25 cent canadian silvers at 8 inches.
Good luck.

I have had my Ace 250 about a month now, I am very happy with the depth. At least it detects as deep as I want to dig...
I had it in the river last week, no problems with the machine.
I had some trouble with pin pointing, but a call to my dealer and watching a recent Youtube video helped a lot. I think Garrett could have done a little better job on their DVD on the subect of pointing.

I am still using the coil that came with it, I don't want to go bigger because of the trash in the area I hunt, and I'm not ready for the smaller sniper coil, because you can't see thru it.

I learn something new everytime I take it out, Garrett says it takes a 100 hours to really learn the machine, I would agree with them. You can start hunting as soon as you turn it on, but the more you use it, the better you will get, not unlike driving a car...

I have found tokens at 12 inches. I haven't had any probs
with the depth. I have found the slower you swing tends to help.
