work with what you have read the book and watch the vid , happy huntinn and welcome to the form

Welcome to the Tnet forums. Stay with the stock coil or go with the smallest coil you can get for sniping coins from trash filled park as the sniper coil will allow you to pinpoint faster and make recovery easier on the grass.

I too have just gotten the Ace 250. Great machine for the price. I use the smaller coil, simply because I lack the funds for the larger coil, and I don't always feel like digging the deeper targets. If you have some extra money to spend, get a good pinpointer first, then a larger coil.

Thanks all for the advice.

I used my 250 for 2 seasons and was perfectly happy and had many finds with the stock coil. I ordered an additional one once, but it was out of stock. By the time it was back in stock I figured I was having good enough luck with the one I had so didn't get it.

The pro pointer is much better money spent than a new coil

cant wait to get my pointer in as well..talk about working for your find....

Just took my new garrett pro pointer out for a couple of searches. The first day I was amazed how accurate and easy it was to locate the target. The second day however it seemed like I had to almost be touching the target to get a "ring". I was thinking it could be a battery issue but the battery is new. Any thoughts?

try a new batt or re seat it , and check sens setting on it and try again

I've been using the 250 for a month now (first detector) and love it with the stock coil. My first purchase was the propointer and made everything much better. I go to a local park (just a bunch of soccer fields) daily and am guaranteed to find $2-3 in pocket change in an hour. The 250 found a silver men's wedding ring 5" down on Tuesday, hit a solid full silver range signal on coin mode. Changed to jewelry mode yesterday and found a gold Eiffel Tower charm 3 inches down with a solid low gold signal. I guess the learning curve with the 250 is learning what items make what dings and what to dig and not to dig (although if its a solid hit I dig it because you never know). This comes with much practice and just using the unit frequently. Ive noticed lately that pennies make the unit go crazy no matter the depth (running coin mode on 4-5 sensitivity), dimes are a solid dime signal and a solid nickel signal is either always a nickel or a pull tab. Make sure with your propointer you tape up the speaker hole especially if you're in wet soil as it'll allow moisture inside the unit pretty easily. Check out this thread for super and de-tuning

Well, I can tell you from MY personal Experiance, I ran the stock coil for the first year, and did..Okay. When iI gopt the bigger coil, I did have a little better luck with it, But its really hard to tell if it was me just getting used to my machine, or if it was the coil. I did notice a difference in depth for sure. But as its said above, it probally isnt great for trashy parks, but its good to have if you are going out to farms or fields which i was for awhile.

But if you got 100 bucks burning a hole in the pocket..get the propointer for SURE

Good Luck!

Yea, those things are tricky sometimes...Im actually due to buy another one, my speaker is jacked up and the button is screwed..Its a great tool thou..i just didnt take care of it like i should have when i first started detecting...and check the batteries frequently...not just when it gives you the alert..you will notice a big difference

Ordered a v4 pinpointer from Kelley and it will be here tomorrow. Hope it works well
