Well have had the Ace 250 for about 3 days now.First day was So so because only went out an hour got some change.Second day went to same park and was there about 4 hours and started to get the hang of the machine found one cheap ring and several dollars in coins. The third day went to different Park and it sucked cause the soil was too dry and hard to dig.Found small Heart necklace looks like silver and a few coins. For some reason at that park i was getting a lot of eratic beeping and signals maybee batterys were a little low or soil was different or perhaps had sensitivity to high.Coin mode works well other modes seem soso.Well Soon will try the beach.Need to learn machine more.wonder wich is all around best mode .Because All metal beeps too much at everything.Any Ideas? :tard:

I use jewelry mode and dig everything to get to know your machine. If you dig in coin mode you will miss the gold.

I like to just knock out the last left (iron) cursor on the screen.

I use my sniper coil just about every where because i hunt mostly in the city parks and neighborhood homesteads that have been torn down so its trash-a-plenty. My usual mode is kept on coin....but sometimes i use a custom mode. i notch out everything but nickel, dime and quarter. That way I hit those three and all the wheaties. that mode ignores all the new pennies and only gives me the older ones. I put my sensitivity about mid range depending on ground and trash conditions. The more trash the less sensitivity. But play with that mode and see what works out better for you.

Hi guy's, my first post on this site. Had my Ace 250 since Oct '08, use it mainly for coin hunting but also find musket balls, shoe & spur buckles in the process!! I'm really only interested in pre-decimal British coins (pre-1970). I use the Ace 250 in custom mode, I set it up to accept all segments as in the 'coin' setting.... then 'flashed' old british coins across the coil in 'custom' and saved that as the custom mode on my detector. Works well for me, I keep finding the coins I like!! Today I went out for three hours & found about ten coins, a musket ball and would you believe - a mouthpiece from a trombone!! I've scanned some of the coins and attached the scan to this posting . The coins range from a King George II halfpenny from 1751, Queen Victoria halfpenny from 1891, & pennies from 1862 & 1899. The other are from around 1915 - 20. I know that the Garrett Ace 250 is not everyones choice, but as the old saying goes "you pays your money & takes your chance". I can only praise the 250. All my detecting is done within about 25 miles of my home in Flintshire, North Wales.

My kids and I have been using COIN mode exclusively, but we are about to totally change over to jewelry (as others have advised here).

That was a cruel trick snyper77....I have been trying to squish that darn bug for 30 mins....hmmmm..I gotta find another hobby..lol

welcome hodge to our humble little forum............ :hello:

using jewelry mode... would you miss any coins ... old coins.... gold coins....etc?

Did you know that TreasureNet offers a spell check at the bottom of the post page?

For park detecting i use the custom mode discriminating against all but the dime and above.

If your on historic sites search for everything and swing back over your holes to make sure you didn`t miss something that iron may have blocked.
I`ve found Williams civil war cleaner bullets ring as Zinc.

For tot lots i search for everything but iron, the 2 foil readings and zinc pennies, they come out of the sand un-usable in the coinstar:)
I do find alot of zippers and button parts with the occasional fuse, nuts, bolts and pull tabs being my most frequent find.

Most of my gold ring finds jump between a pulltab and nickel.

Good Luck.
I`ts the best detector i`ve ever used for 5 years.
PS the larger coil is good for fields and less trashy areas.

Hope that helps Trackerman

I set up my wife's Ace 250 in all metal mode and then excluded the far left block for iron. That was a mistake! Now she is often finding more than I do. :)
