I went relic hunting for the first time with my Ace 250. Being new to M D I’m not sure if the Ace 250 is the right Machine but it will have to do for now. I bought the detector for finding coins and later became interested in civil war relics. I got permission to hunt a farm next to a civil war battle field, any advice would be appreciated.. Here are some finds from the woods next to my house.

God Bless
Mike

Just about any machine will find cw relics. Just learn how your machine works. The key to finding relics is location, and it sounds like you have a great place to look. I noticed in your pic that you are finding brass and copper, thats good, most cw relics are brass, copper, and lead. I would get a few lead sinkers and place them around the yard, once you learn how to locate lead you can find a cw site.
Good diggin and let us know what you find!

You'll do OK Relic hunting with the Ace 250, Spoonie. Run in Relics mode, take your time, and be ready to dig some iffy signals. The Ace is a better coin than relics detector, but Relicreb is right, just get to know your machine.

Just bought a Tesoro Vaquero for hopes of deeper finds, and in 2 short test runs it seems to do just that. Just around a couple of yards but it does find stuff at 4-8" without batting an eye. Plan on a real relic hunt later this week, in wooded areas around here.

Relic Hunting is Very Addictive, BTW ;D

depends on how deep your stuff seems to sink. In my area I am finding bullets, buttons, etc at only about 4-6 inches. They hit a clay layer and don't sink much past that. If your in a real sandy area, thats another story. You want a really deep seeking machine then since relics sink farther and faster in that loose soil.

you seem to be doing very well with the brass items and thats good . I'm not familiar with that machine. I use a whites 5900di pro sl. my opinion the best detector ever made. it's easy to use and is very tough. I tried a whites xlt was not impressed. But everyone has there own opinion. but heres what I say read the field reports on a detector before you buy it. and remember you get what you pay for! Your detector is doing great on brass as I said but another importent thing is depth. I have dug bullets as deep as 8 inchs and most civil war bullets average 5-6 inchs in depth. do a few air tests on a few items by running them across the bottom of your detector you should be able to pick them up at a foot from your coil or more. buttons slightly shorter but remember once that item is in the ground you well loose a little depth I get a good bullet air test at one foot from my coil so I figure I'm good to about 10 inchs. this is not with every detector but after using mine for as long as I have I know it like the back of my hand. and being a short distance from gettysburg I got plenty of practice. good luck!
