ACE 250 at low tide?

Works good in dry sand on salt water beaches,

wet sand's a different story, it'll chatter, and false a lot, you'll probably not be able to find much because you'll have to turn the sensitivity down to almost 0 to get it to stabilize.

fresh water beaches it will work in wet or dry sand

Yep, worked the same for me...

Great on the dry stuff and crazy wild on the wet...

For the general safety of the detector at a salt water beach, some will add additional water proof sealent at the lower coil / cable connection. I generally clean my upper connection once a month with a bit of WD 40 (wiped) not sprayed or flooded on. Fresh water rinse the coil when done, and don't raise the coil / pole above the control box where water could run down into it. The other thing I do is take clear Saran wrap and wrap up the upper connection / control box area. Thats good for sand , salt spray and rain drops. My machine has a manual ground balance knob , so I wrap unit, put a slit of the knob access and then do a second pc. as a flap that I could lift for getting to the knob if I want to.
Just some thoughts.

That's a good idea using plastic wrap to cover the box...

I wonder if those with the elastic already in them would work, or if it would be of comprable size...

took mine out to the beach for the first time today and it did jut fine in the wet sand.
