To hunt two very old sites, Using the Garrett Ace 250, I was using "relic" and "All metal" modes, TONS of junk targets found some old hand made nails, other odds no ends! snd no coins :icon_scratch: looking for advice as perhaps a different approach? Thanks

Sometimes when you're in a trashy area like that you just need to turn up the discrimination and go slow. There are probably good targets between all the crappy ones.

Much depends on you and your detectors relationship and experience with different settings and recoveries..

I have used a 150 and now a 350 .
Usually in jewelry mode for mixed hunting but iron gets told on even in discrimination.
But that is me wanting to be aware of multiple targets vs only some.
I do discrim up to foil range ,usually , but in relic hunting am looking for anything to start.
Not all old sites contain lots of coins.
Some had folks that either did not have many ,or seldom had a need to carry them about daily.
Keep swingin!

Put it in coins mode. You will still get bullets and anything brass, copper, pewter, etc and some iron that fools the machine. (washers, square nails and the like) If you go all metal in trashy area it's gunna be tough.
Gotta go slow.
Smaller coils can help you separate the good and the trash.
