Ya know, I've been thinking about how I was measuring my success in returning to this hobby by how old I was finding. I am now convinced that this is wrong. Way back in the last millennium, I was a rank beginner and it did seem that was the right measuring tool. I was seeing all the boasting of how old their stuff was and it was like a competition to say who has the oldest. :) I fell right in line.

This time around I went right back to being frustrated because I was ONLY finding new stuff. I even had as my signature that "My detector was older than the coins I was finding". :laughing7:

So, what changed my way of thinking? Well, I went out for a bit and among all the clad that was coming out this little ring popped up.

I said to myself, beautiful! No, not the prettiest I've ever found, but, no matter the age, it was a very pretty addition among the clad.

I was still trying to find "old" stuff and being a little frustrated at all these infernal NEW coins! (pretty dumb eh? A bit spoiled even! :) )

Then something popped out that wasn't any older than those "Wheaties" I was trying so hard to push back past. It made me think, wait a minute, there are a LOT of beauteous coins to be found and AGE has nothing to do with them.

The picture is my very first SLH. Farm fresh as it were, haven't even washed it off yet. :)

Hope you enjoy.

I can tell you......as you get older and more educated in the matter of "life" beauty and the small things in life mean more than what you may find......just a nice warm day out anywhere, (no ticks) even though you find nothing......is wonderful.....enjoy what life gives you every day.......you'll love it.......Good hunting and may God bless you.

Absolutely! There are more important things than "finding". I just realized that old habits do die hard. :)

Thanks for the kind, wise words.

Nice finds... I honestly just like getting out and swinging, but the older stuff does seem to light the eyes a little more.

I'm with you guys. Just getting out swinging, and getting away from the noise of work, does me a lot of good. I prefer the beeps over most people's banter. Oh yah, the stuff we find makes us happy, old or new.

I really like finding the old stuff and not just coins, But I know they are far and few so I have learned to enjoy just being out and swinging , the good fines will come sooner or later,Congrats on a great fine!!!

Indian Head penny, Walking Liberty Half.
I think you just blew your wheat penny's out of the Park.
That Walker is a Great Find!!!

"the good fines will come sooner or later"

I hope not!

:) LOL

Thanks! I didn't actually find the Indian Head on this hunt though. It's from my first go round, a long time ago.

Just used it as an interesting size comparison piece.

Thanks for taking a peek and taking the time to respond.

Yep, I am very happy to have been fortunate enough to not only walk over the half but to read the signal right and dig it up without dinging.

Don't know how many others may have walked over it, the signal was in a bunch of trash and about 6 inches deep. Someone smiled on me and I saw the signal and didn't pass it over too.

Life is good, I'm finally beginning to enjoy.

Thanks for taking time to respond.
