Aberdeen Maryland Panning

Hi! I just got my first pan and am actually pretty interested in searching Harford County. I even called Rocks State Park but was told panning is prohibited in the park. Do you know of a place where it is actually legal? If so, I'd be happy to go!

north of rocks park in deer creek and falling branch! You will find placer gold. Still looking for the exact location of Macton Gold Mine up that way myself!!!!

Go to World Gold Mines and see the gold locations on a map. Click on any mine while in information mode [i] to get a lot more information.

Then go to the Mining Library and search for Map Showing Mineral Resources of the Culpeper Basin, Virginia and Maryland.

Then it's just a matter of finding where in the gold regions you can prospect.

Easy and chock full of information.

Just trying to bump this up to see about other guys in Harford County. I can confirm gold in the county, found a small amount as recently as on Friday the 31st of October. I have a spot but I am still trying to figure out the legality of it all. Shoot me a PM if you are interested in chatting

Trying to figure out the legality? Is it public or private. If private then you need permission. Not trying to sound TOO harsh, but please explain that statement and maybe we can help.

Coming from a fishing background I know how access to water can be in the area. I also know that you have rights to waters that are considered "navigable". I can enter this area via the road and walk completely within the confines of the creek bed, below the high water marks on either side.

Then the stream isn't able to be navigated. Access has to be by boat.

Nobody said I could not use a kayak or small boat to enter the waterway, just the location I am working in does not require it to be done that way. I can enter directly from the street into waterway, and I stay within the confines of the waterway

I'm just saying that where I live lots of times the land boundaries actually meet in the middle of the streams. Just because you can walk in the water doesn't mean it doesn't belong to someone.

Curious to see how much gold is over in Harford. I grew up in that area.

I don't know what you meant to say, but as said in the beginning was wanting more info to assist. That's what we try to do here. You said yourself you didn't know if you were trespassing or not.

I have said all I can think of in regard to the area. I am able to enter the creek from a street bridge and I am within 50 feet of the road. We are not talking rural/hunting type areas this is suburban areas where the creeks and woods are within a neighborhood In these places in my county rarely do the house lots extend that far into the woods. I believe the property is owned by the neighborhood and common ground. They can not build on it but it is part of the community.

You'd be pretty surprised if you asked a few home owners to access the creek via their property. Most are quite willing to let you.

my friends and I average about 70% yes when we ask so go for it!

Yeah I am working on finding the right people to ask. The places around here are a little different. Everything is either private or State property. Finding property owners of some of the more secluded areas is tough because sometimes there isn't a residence on the property. I know Google Maps isn't always accurate but many places it shows housing lots surrounding an area but a strip of property the follows the waterway.

How would you approach a creek that you know holds gold but is on commercial property. The property's border follows the creek which is in wooded and down the hill along the perimeter of property. Think of a strip mall type place where there may be a bunch of different stores, Target, Lowes, resturants, huge parking lot, etc. You are able to park in the lot right next to the woods and got to your spot. Would you ask permission?

For any of these absentee owner situations you can use your county assessor website to see the real boundaries and ownership including their mailing address. Drop a few a note and see what happens or just use your judgment behind a store.
