Looks like a Chinese cash coin. There are several people on this site who are very adept at ID'ing them. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them. It might be older than you think.

I used to ID these for people but someone here spoiled that, so now I'll just pass on the links I used to use... Good luck... those are cool coins to find.

You can also search the Zeno database but it takes some patience. http://www.zeno.ru/ I would start with China. You may be surprised how old it is.

I dont know what happened, but Montana Jim is the best at it and I hope he will ID this one for you.
You sure found a bunch doublet2a. You should be in the banner.

Well, this one is indeed old - if real. It was minted in 1086, value in its condition is about $5. However, to me it looks too clean and no "chips" or so to have been in the ground for very long. Some fakes do exist, especially if the edge (just rub your finger alongside it) is very smooth.

Hopes this helps!

Sorry, forgot to add, it is Chinese. Some were "exported" to Japan in the 1400's and used there until 1550's or so.

Here are over 200 year old Cash coins. Yours look somewhat similar on the rims, except mine are brass (I think) not copper. Mark Parker sent the photos to the Oriental Numismatic Society. I got a letter from their monetary historian. He confirmed the coins were minted 1736-1795. The authentic coin sword, according to the historian, had a hand beaten metal piece inside. There are some modern fakes, but mine is authentic. Chinese used them to ward off demons. The cluster in the photo is a protective amulet.
