Thrilled to find them, too.
Not just because of what they are but where and how I found them.
This was in my local park, mineralized, trash and iron infested too, everything is masked and it took me awhile to learn to get deeper in this mess and to avoid iron while still recognizing good targets.
This has been going well but these two were found in a small area I have been over and over many times with many detectors, coils and settings and missed every time.
Yesterday I noticed some new and slightly odd behavior on some very shallow coins that seemed to be different than what I already know about target behavior and found these.
I had no idea shallow targets here would act this way, I have been skipping most signals with close to this kind of behavior but now I will be looking for them.
I just can't dig all signals around here, way too much trash and iron and way to little time, patience and energy so my goal has been to learn ways to avoid most of it and still find the good stuff and I have found ways to do that more successfully than I thought was possible...now I found another little piece of the puzzle.
I know I am on to something because I dug the wheat cent first, got about 7-8 other signals I did not dig but then got the signal on the dime and something about it triggered my digging instinct.
Hard to explain but I learned something new yesterday that I hope will help to find me much more in the future.
When I got the second signal I would have been happy if it was just another wheat, when the silver dime popped up I was shocked and awed...then thrilled.
Shocking because of how many times I know I have swung over this exact spot so this was like hunting your front lawn 100 times and then one day on the 101st try you find a merc you missed every other time.
You never stop learning in this hobby if you are smart, in my really bad dirt this is even more important.
I am more happy about learning a new helpful skill than finding the coins...almost.
A sharp 1919 wheat and a not so sharp but still beautiful 1917 merc.
A victory and then a bigger victory...hopefully more to come.
