Well, at least clueless about this piece. It was found in area of the woods were the only other items I have found have been shot gun shells, 20th century lead bullets, and old-style pulltabs. There is a gun club nearby, but no cellar holes and not an area where people have lived close by. I could not find any writing on the item, and it seems to be crudely made. When I mean by that is that the mold line seems to have been roughly filed, and the whole item doesn't have a good symmetry to it. Just curious about the item. Thanks.

Don't know what it is but doesn't look like any gun part I have ever seen.

It looks like one half of a scope mounting ring.....but your item looks like brass....if it is brass it probably is not half of a scope ring.

If it is a gun part and I guess it's not, It may be a scope mount. but I'll go with a pipe hanger.

Looks like half of a ground strap clamp.

Ya'll can keep guessing if ya want to but here's a pic of a pipe hanger from the Home Depot page... A metal rod would screw into the center hole so you can hang the pipes whatever distance you want from the ceiling.
