A weight of some sort?

Found this on RI coastline. I'm thinking a fishing weight maybe.

Not sure what type of metal exactly but it does ring near copper on my CTX 3030. There may be markings on the top if I can clean the crud off somehow. You can see what looks like a piece of leather still in the hole.

The shape is like an egg cut in half - flat on one end. It's pretty heavy too - 4.6 oz or 130 grams.
