I know this is a TINY item, but the trenches I found it in are so "Modern-Junk-Free" that I'm really curious what use this could have. Any ideas? It's brass with a good patina. If you look up in the slightly flared end, you just see the other end of the wire loop. The only thing I could think of was to go on the end of a thick string (Or very small lanyard) to keep it from fraying, or to easily clip it to something? I'm stumped.

While few flintlocks were used in Civil war a pan brush and its companion pick were standard fare then and before to users. I,m not saying that,s your find though it could be..The seventh Arkansas had some flintlocks at Shilo as others may have as a result of volunteers bringing their own weapons.
Inch, inch and a half maybe for pan brush. Horse hair common.
