I went back to the school yard today that produced a nice Indian Wars era US Officer's button two weeks ago. Hoping for more relics from the soccer field, I was not disappointed. About 8 inches down and giving off a sketchy high 70's-low 80's VDI, I dug down to see a large, rectangular plate in the bottom of the hole. Oh Boy! (I thought a belt plate maybe?) Nope, a really nice older pancake padlock, probably used on a travel trunk. It is marked, " M. I. Jackson Co., Philadelphia USA." Best I can tell, it dates in the 1880's, but I would really appreciate any help from my fellow TNetters on "locking down" the patent date!
Also unearthed a neat little cloisonne pendant depicting "Laura's Home, Mansfield, MO." Of course, referring to Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of the "Little House on the Prairie" series of books. It is a cool little souvenir piece from a near-by historical spot.
I hope all of my TNet friends can get out and dig up some goodies this weekend too. Happy Hunting, Sub
