A treasure from cape cod!

Anyone know what it is though I did some research on the area and it was used in the 1700's as a schooner yard, and i also found an 1828 half penny near it! This item is marked "loach & clarke patbnted" yes patbnted not patented.? I looked up loach and clarke and they were a brassfounder in the mid to late 1800's.

Appears to me to be the brass casing to an old fish scale. I've found many underwater over the years.
