I found this item yesterday in my 18th, early 19th century honey hole, near one of the deep foundations,it is fairly heavy for its size, appears to be solid copper or brass, and it was found in a crushed copper( what might have been a cylinder.)there seems to be the remnants of a piece of leather held down by the rivets.its a full piece not broken at all. i've never encountered anything like it before.keep in mind, theres no modern trash at all at this site,no cans, round nails, pull tabs, nothing.

part of a horse harness?

Bill
it's possible, however its solid copper, with a leather pad,on top of that is another thin copper sheet, with 2 rivets through it.seems far too heavy to have served that purpose.i thought possibly electrical, however this site predates the arrival of electrical service in such a remote area. this is nearly a mile in the woods of rural Vermont, there is no town record of anyone ever settling here, which makes it of interest to me.

that glues to the windshield and holds a mirror in a car
i'd love to see the 19th century car it was attached too lol good guess, but its far too old and far to heavy, being solid copper.

Petal/Lever
might possibly be a lever, way too small to be a pedal. the stem end is not broken, its smooth an rounded off.i can see the leather being possibly a seal
