Went to a local tot lot yesterday, found a few clads and thanks from some parents. The parents were of course with their children and saw me cleaning up the can slaw, pull tabs, bottle tops and broken glass. I was amazed at how much was there and how people were so lazy to not walk over to the trashcan and throw it away...funny thing was they went to the trouble to dig in the mulch and bury the item. There are some seriously dumb lazy people in this world. It was nice to hear thank you from the parents. Imagine how upset they were after finding out that stuff was under their noses that could have hurt their kids. One seriously odd disgusting thing was how horrible some of our local country teens are..one boy thought it would be cool to take a leak on the spiral slide, guess he thought he was entertaining the kids with his vast knowledge of hydrodynamics and gravity.

Parents, Park and Beach goers should always thank the guys cleaning up those areas for them.
Best of Luck!

It is truly amazing of the lack of moral aptitude in today's culture, I try to lead by example in my household in the hopes it runs off, but these unsupervised kids at the parks need a good meeting with my belt. Few months back at a playground recovering a target, looked up as some 12 yr old was winding up to throw a handful of pennies at me. Looked up just in time to have him hold back on the full force of the throw. Needless to say, no parents around, gave him an adult tongue lashing and made him not only apologize repeatedly, also made him pick up all the visible pennies. I can only maintain the person in the mirror, just hope it starts rubbing off soon. Well done on trash clean up.

I am always amazed at how dirty some people are. I have been to places where there is so much trash, even dirty diapers. UGH! I carry a bag in my car and throw nothing out the windows, unless it is an apple core or a bannana peel.

I always enjoy your posts badger, they always are about respect and basic human decency. Yes it's amazing to me how disrespectful people are of our land and some of them are parents of young children themselves! Its good that you got some good feedback from some of the parents at the park ,maybe that will help others to not be so self absorbed and actually walk the 20 more paces to properly dispose of their trash.

I had several parents chastise me for using a small rake to recover coins and trash from a tot lot. However their tone changed when I uncovered a hypodermic needle buried in the mulch. Oh well! Lab Rat Pappy

Before the end of the past school term, id say a couple months before summer I had gone to the local schools playground and im so glad I did. I found used needles and a used condom laying on the sliding board. I was so disgusted by it and enraged. People shooting up and getting busy on what children play on is sinking pretty low ok my book. I made an extreme effort to cover every inch. I saved the trash which also included can slaw, glass, nails, screws and wire and showed the principal what his kids were playing around. Needless to say he was shocked and became very upset when he started to think of what could have happened...he called in the grounds keeping staff right then and made them go rake and clean the area. I think we should be seen as public servants considering what we accomplish.

it's not just the parks...I'm 99% sure I saw a mom cleaning her "wet" child in Kohll's this past weekend with a shirt she pulled from the clearance rack. I should have called her out on it.

I actually like to detect the tot lots and agree that they are full of garbage.

It never fails, always get a kid or two and their Mom or Dad following me around for every beep and tons of questions. We dig everything and I insist on taking the trash out and disposing of it properly. The kids get to keep all the clad pennies and anything else they want to use for craft projects. I have yet to run into anything dangerous for them but I do the digging with gloves and tools and only let them have the finds once I know what it is.

Now for beaches and parks, yup, lots of bad stuff out there! Gloves, tools, common sense go a long way. It is a shame what our world has become so PLEASE be safe out there my friends.

It's amazing what you can find at schools. The bar has lowered, that's for sure. Some will never know the things detectorists do that help out. Oh well...

Thanks to all who help keep the kids a little safer!

This is such a sore point of mine that I need to move to another thread. People are pigs! Thanks for bringing this blatant disregard up as a reminder!

I found a throwing knife in a tot lot a mother with kids was watching me she was amazed an scared at what all I pulled out of the mulch.

Well we all know how disgusting our fellow humans are and I'd thought id seen it all but guys this one takes the cake. I went to our local dollar general and a lady umm no a pig goes to the aisle where they have the feminine products opens a box of tampons drops her shorts in front of everyone, removes the "old one" places it on the shelf and inserts the new one..she turns and looks at us like we're the crazy ones and walks out. The clerks were dumbstruck and me who always has something to say am left speechless. The clerk had to go dispose of the item, they called the cops of course no idea if that will go anywhere. After this late night show I will never complain of picking up trash again, that poor clerk had to and she was mortified. People are so nasty today, you wouldn't have seen that 20 years ago any where but im sure there would have been some law protecting her feminine rights, if not im sure some lawyer would come up with something. There were kids there too, I mean where has morality gone?

I have 4 tot-lots that I detect every other week, and I to have found some nasty stuff,no needles yet,but I did find a crack pipe with I think some crack still in it,I called 9-1-1 on that one and when the cop showed up he just shook his head and thanked me.I told him that that was the first drug related thing I found in a tot-lot,but I told him I have found case cutter blades rigged in a way that they could hurt some kid, broken beer bottles, etc.Your right though, some people just think that they can throw trash on the ground and that someone will pick it up,won't they:icon_scratch:

I always make it a point to be seen picking up the trash whenever I hunt. I agree people don't realize the amount of potentially harmful trash we dispose of properly. I just recently went to a beautiful natural swimming hole and there under a rock ledge was a hypodermic needle with cap. It was not in cellophane, so I assume it had been used. I was stunned by the beauty of God's creation and the careless disregard by selfish individuals who feel it is their world to do as they please with no respect for other people. Our brave soldiers fight for the freedom to enjoy our natural resources and people rape them. People can be very disgusting and undeserving of the air our bravest share.
