Recently researching books online, from genealogy to local history and items inbetween, I ran across these. I saved all ten volumes to my computer so I can reference back to them. They are good reading and the photos are pretty amazing! I did not realize how many photos there were of the Civil War until going through these volumes. These were written around 1911 time frame.

I am putting the links here of all the volumes in order, so if you decide you want to give them a read....might even help in some areas that might be some good detecting areas...even though looking through the books and the photos, some places I can picture homes, shopping malls and off limit battlefields to detectors...but nonetheless, might be something to look into!

If you wish to save them to your computer...on the right after you click on the book, is a link DOWNLOAD. Click on that and then click OPEN. After the PDF file opens, then go to FILE and SAVE A COPY to a directory on your computer (a directory you will remember).

Enjoy!
Annmarie

Thanks Annmarie! Had to modify the download afterwards to include the book # on each PDF file otherwise they all said the same "The Photographic History of the Civil War." Thus to "The Photographic History of the Civil War BK 1-etc".

You are most welcomed....oops...I forgot to say that! Thanks!!!

Yep, when you go to save, you have to make sure you list what VOLUME you are saving.....otherwise, it will over write your previous save! Thanks Stoney!!!

Thank you Anne! Great stuff

You are so welcomed! Hope you enjoy them! Lots of great stuff and maybe, just maybe, contain info for your location! :)

Hey, any luck on getting photos from the archives?

Has anyone downloaded these books? If so, did you find them interesting? Did they give you ideas on places to hunt? Aren't the pics great? :)

Hey Ron and Ann, you guys are great. I can't believe the stuff you two post. This is truly a greeeeaaaaat Site thanks to people like you two. I'm getting all giddy, like a school girl which is funny if you could see my 6'5" 280lbs frame. :notworthy: :D

Awww Shucks, ain't nuthin'! LOL

When I do my genealogy research, I often run across some good stuff and I like to share with folks that would appreciate it!

Remember, with each save, make sure you put the volume number after the file name...this way you won't OVERWRITE a file. Enjoy...they are some pretty good volumes and I love all the pics in them!

Thanks Ann, downloading now....these are excellent and like you said the photo's are outstanding.

Those are some great books, I haven't seen a copulation of CW pictures like this ever before. I can spend hours just looking at them, let alone reading the full story.

I've never seen CW copulation pictures either........

Anyhow, thanks Ann. I'm saving the links to a document file so I don't take up the memory with the entire documents. (Antiquated Laptop)
