Stop at a vacant building in downtown Sarasota, building looks to be in the 30's ish. Was finding the typical clad. Then a couple of wheat's, the find of the day was this military button. On the back it says, " the art metal company " Newark NJ. 20160908_154818.jpg20160908_180833.jpg20160908_180624.jpg20160908_180649.jpgthanks for looking

Congrats on your Great Seal Button. Thats a nice military find.

Nice military button, and I have found buttons just like that and I still wonder how to determine which are WW 1 or WW 2.

Nice button.

I found one of those, but it was far too corroded to read the back.

Congrats! Nice finds, good work.

The backmark, Art Metal Works, dates from 1902-1930's. Prior to 1923 Great Seal buttons had a black finish, which I can't tell if this originally had, but would determine the range of when it was produced. AMW was owned by Ronson, the cigarette lighter folks. During WWII they still made stuff for the military, but they were better known for things like flame throwers and ordnance. I think they left buttons to the multitude of others manufacturers.
