It has been awhile since I perused this particular forum.

Lotsa great stories!

Only problem is I cannot read many of them.

Why?

Because the people who posted about them only posted a LINK to the story, not the story itself.

I am looking in stories only 2-3 months old, and finding the links are dead.

In the future, could people please copy and past the actual story in addition to posting the link?

Just my 2-cents...

Sounds reasonable.

I do think that it would take up alot more bandwidth and may cost the site operators more money, though.

If they do it, I'm all for it.

I use to and still bookmark sites to read and copy later, but like you said, the links die sometimes. I think that once the die, you loose the info that you were searching for unless it's cached.

Certainly if there is valid reason not to post the actual story, it is no big thing.

But I just checked out about 20 different stories in this forum, and at least half of them were dead, though they were not more than 2 months old.

Dose that present a copywrite problem? Thats the main reason I use the link.

It depends. It is legal to include "brief quotes" when talking about a story (I'd still use the link as well), but if you post the entire story, it could be considered copyright infringement.

Some sites actually give permission by saying "you may copy this article as long as the author/identification/copyright (whatever) remains with the story."

When I send a link to an article to friends, I'll usually include the headline and one or two sentences that pretty much give the basics of the story. It kinda leaves it up to them whether they go and check out the details, but you know they probably have the gist, anyway.

Lots of thises and thatses connected to copyright law, this is a pretty good site for reference:

Thanks Nan!, I'll check it out. Gypsy recently taught me the ins and outs of copy and paste, I'll try using it more often.
