This has been done before in recent months, years and centuries, but can we not sticky a post permanently with all the relevant info....that is, one of the several guides to CRH'ing that have floated around here.....

In the past week we have had several new friends pop in here and ask for the standard issue info, what is it, what dates, what, what, why, huh?
;D

Many other folks have posted links to various and sundry web pages and other pages in this forum with relevant info, but we need it right up front always so new peeps can see it the very first time they arrive in the CRH forum.

Scuse me if others have posted this suggestion already several hundred times....

Good idea, we need a topic "pinned" in here. There's been a lot of questions this past week alone from people asking the same things.
I was a newbie once too, but with so many threads in here telling people what to save, newbies should scroll down a little and read some of these posts before just asking "what to look for?"

Exactly.Should we pick out the silver for them too.If they're that interested then read up first.Research a little before asking standard issue questions that have been asked a hundred times already.

i totally agree. and it needs to have links to where people can sell their silver too.  i've seen alot of "where can i sell?" threads lately.

Oh I agree. But perhaps if a post was stickied permanently, we would not have so many people asking questions we see repeated here time and time again.

Sorry to bother you. If there had been something pinned I am sure I could have at least muddled through the little words.

I had done this years ago, but I had no idea that it was a real hobby. When I started getting into MD I found this site and then I found this forum. I asked for help, already knowing most of the answers but I needed to catch up on recent varieties. I also wanted to see who was out there worth talking with and to introduce myself. Not everyone is as knowlegable as you, but they certainly are more patient. Apparently I am neither patient nor knowlegable.

Well, speaking for myself I don't see it that way. I just think it'd be a good idea. Coin roll hunting is sure getting popular- and its true we answer the same questions over and over and over. A pinned post would be a good idea and it has nothing to do with anybodies intelligence. :)

A sticky at the top would be great, but just the basics.

When I first found this site I read every post that sounded interesting. It took me a few weeks but I learned a lot. I am still learning.

Ditto.

When I joined in December, I read many, many, many of the posts (OK, just about all) learning answers to just about all of my questions; before I asked any.

The info is there, and reading the posts (first) will educate without the need to duplicate. IMHO 8)

on da street, we like ta say "Da game is to be sold, not to be told!". whucha'll thank bout dat? newbies gonna be creepin' into erybody's hood soon if we keep learnin' 'em! least they could do is scroll down, maybe try searchin' da internet 'fo askin' some trick-a$$ question! i just got some mark-a$$ trick's marked coins in today's boxes, what had put me in a bad mood. word is bond, imma found out where dat ni$$a bank and hook him up wit a gang a dem hafs got da magik mark cross kennedys' mug! you try markin' coinz in da M-Town, you gonna get dealt with, believe dat!

Your not bothering me.If you would have kept the entire content of my reply along with scotto's quote, you would see that I agree about a "general information" topic being pinned at the top of the CRH forum page.Sorry if I sounded uppity,my reply wasn't ment to offend you or anyone else.BTW-i'm far from knowledgeable and i'm working on my patience.Maybe I shouldn't post before i've had my morning coffee. ;)

Hrm... Once I thought about it my reply came before the coffee also. The kids were not getting off to school very well either. :-\

Truce then...

How about that sticky?? We can go Patrick's route and simply post that there is nothing left to be found in the bank system, so just forget about it...

Truce. :) Patrick Earl needs to stop CRH'ing and get back to rappin, his parole officer is gonna think he robbed a bank one day when he comes over to his crib and sees all that change laying around. He's devious, just wants it all for himself, that's how he rolls.Aint that rite Project Pat? ;D Roll some lyrics for us.

That's a good Idea and I am one of those newbies asking. So if the info was right at the top it could save grief for us and you guys! ;D

Why does my gold 1974 not have a mint mark? Where is it from? Does it increase the value? Who would do this and why? Do you want to buy it?

Just My $.02 in general as to WHY questions are asked...

Yes, Being a "newbie" leaves you with questions... But a smart person will read, and NOT just jump in. I'm sure most questions are usually out of frustration of finding a source with the right answere. "ok, DAH..." ;D

BUT... Unless you "JOIN NOW!" ($$$$), you cannot search TreasureNet forums... THAT generates a LOT of repeat questions because new folks can't search for their answeres... and you can only go back so many pages before going nuts...

I have no problems with TreasureNet's reasoning as to why search is limited... I agree that it may limit the bandwidth use and the cost of running the site. I'm just pointing out one of the reasons why a new person may ask a question that was already answered if they can't search for it on the forums. Maybe not a sticky with a big explanation, but just the LINK to the one that was mentioned NUMEROUS times before.

With that stated, an introduction of sorts: I've only recently even signed up... I've been Lurking for about 3 monts off/on and reading and reading and doing my CRH in my spare time... Until I found this forum on TN, I didn't know that CRH was a hobby, either... CRH for me started after my grandmother gave me a pile of coins to pull silver from... "Thanks Grams!" Maybe I should start/boost my stats with what Grandma gave me... it did happen in 2007.

She had gotten them from her brother that passed, and I was the only one interested in them (I play with some silver jewelry/lapidary on the side and toyed with the idea of using the old 90%'rs that were all but gone as bullion.) ::) A funny thing happened... While going though those coffee cans, I found 5 rolls of halfs that had "CLAD" written on the outside of the wrapper... Turned out to only be 1 CLAD roll, and 4 rolls of 40%'s. I've been hooked ever since. Thats not to mention the franklins', peace dollars, walkers, mercury dimes, silver nickles and steel & wheat pennies... ;D

How did I transition from lurker? It quite literally was the comments about the hollowed halfs that got my curiosity up too much and had to post.

I'm sure there are also other lurkers out there like me... that will never say a word because they, like I did, will use Google and Yahoo, and the local library to find the answeres before taking a brave step and actually asking a question or sounding like a fool. But eventually, we all ask questions. ;)

"My grandfather told me it is better to keep you mouth shut and let people think your an idiot than to open it and prove them right." I forget who said it, and it may be missquoted a bit, but I try to follow it.

keep the change, I think I went over my $.02... ::)
