Is the inside of the long pipe tapered? Reminds me of a siphon to add soap ot other additives to a high pressure stream.

The operating end of a gas burner? The open fitting held the burner tube, The rusty stub was the gas valve?

Based on it's 'utilitarian' look, I agree with Mike on this... likely for commercial/factory use.

Irrigation valve. Buried in a box in the ground and turned on and off with a forked key

6A22DE19-93FF-43F8-A9BE-714B8A83A980.webpThe longer shaft is 4 1/3” and the shorter one is 3”...it was found in the woods. ..the diameter of the larger fitting is 4 centimeters shy of an inch. This is a pic of what the other open end looks like at the end of the longer shaft.

I’m guessing this part that looks like an uppercase (I) sat in an empty uppercase (I) as some sort of a stabilizer perhaps..being that it’s solid and most likely without any other function.
